Forehead lift
A forehead lift is a surgical procedure to correct sagging of the forehead skin, eyebrows, and upper eyelids.
Most people who undergo this surgery are in their 40s - 60s who want to slow the visible effects of aging. It also might be useful in case of some inherited conditions, such as furrowed lines above the nose or a droopy eyebrow. A forehead lift can correct deep furrows between the eyes, horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, sagging brows. It can also help a nose that doesn't function properly.
The surgery

The surgery removes or alters the muscles and skin responsible for visible signs of aging. It may be along other procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. The surgery requires local anaesthesia; patients are awake during the operation. (However, you may ask for general anaesthesia to sleep through the procedure.)
Before the surgery hair immediately in front of the incision line may need to be trimmed, but it's not necessary to shave the head. The surgeon makes the incision at ear level that continues across the top of the forehead at the hairline to avoid making the forehead appear too high. After the excess tissue, skin, and muscle is removed, the doctor closes the incision with stitches or staples. The face is washed to prevent irritation to the skin and then dressings are applied.
After the Procedure
After the surgery the area is wrapped with a sterile padding and an elastic bandage is applied to prevent bleeding and swelling. Bruising and swelling occur around the eyes and cheeks, but they are likely to disappear in a few days or a week. Bandages are removed the day after the surgery, stitches or clips within two weeks.
People feel numbness and temporary discomfort in the forehead area, which can be controlled with medication. These sensations are replaced by itching, and it may take up to 6 month for these sensations to fully disappear.
Within 14 days, patients are able to return to normal life. However, it is advisable to avoid vigorous physical activity and prolonged exposure to heat or sun for a few weeks.
Hair should grow normally after the surgery, and most signs of the surgery normally fade completely within 2-3 months.
Complications and risks
Every surgery presents some complications and risks. The most common complications include: bruising, swelling, bleeding, blood clotting, infection, scarring and negative reaction to anaesthesia.
Forehead lifts might make it difficult to raise the eyebrows or wrinkle the forehead on one or both sides in rare instances. In some cases hair loss may occur along the edges of the scars. These conditions can be corrected during further surgeries.
You can avoid most complications by choosing the right cosmetic surgeon and following pre- and postoperative instructions.
